The security industry’s regulatory body PSIRA has laid charges on the private protection services company over the alleged eviction of beachgoers at Clifton Beach in Cape Town in December.

They’ll be charged with violating the industry’s code of conduct.

The incident raised the ire of thousands of people sparking protests that included the slaughtering of a sheep on the beach.

In a statement, the CEO of PSIRA, Sam Chauke said, “Three security officers have been charged in relation to the code of conduct, we have also charged one of the directors as well as the security company.”

PPA Director Chris Hendricks denies that its security officials instructed people to leave the beach with force.

“PPA members at no stage directly or indirectly informed or instructed any beachgoers that the beach is closed or closes at 8o’clock.”

At the same time, the City of Cape Town has denied that it has a contract with the private security company to patrol Clifton beaches.
