Britain wants better treatment of Israel by UN

June 19, 2018

Thahir Asmal, Radio Islam News – 19-06-2018

Britain’s foreign secretary Boris Johnson has urged the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) to reform its treatment of Israel.

Johnson blasted the organisations Agenda Item 7 policy, which is a permanent fixture on the schedule and one that was exclusively devoted to discussing rights abuses in Palestine.

The illegal state is the only country with a dedicated council item.
Johnson believes this was unfair.

“We share the view that the dedicated Agenda Item 7 focused solely on Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories is disproportionate and damaging to the cause of peace, and unless things change we shall vote next year against all resolutions introduced under Item 7.”

Johnson’s comments, at the opening of the 38th council session, means the United Kingdom now join the US as the only other opponent of the controversial Agenda Item 7.
