Genre: Islamic Law/Translation/Contemporary Issues
Target Audience: Aqeeda, according to the scholars of Islam is the firm creed that one’s heart is fixed upon without any wavering or doubt. It excludes any supposition, doubt or suspicion. Our beliefs must be corrected first, and then other aspects of the religion follow.
This book, and its translation provide comprehensive insight to the Aqeeda of the Ahl us Sunnah wal Jama’ah and their truth.
Suitability: All. In some small parts of the translation, the Urdu text is not accessibly reflected.
Synopsis: Jundub ibn Abdullah al-Bajaly (rad) said: “We learned Ieman (Faith), and then we learned the Quran, and it increased our Ieman.” Similarly Abdullah ibn Umar (rad) said: “We lived in a time in which one of us would receive Faith/Ieman first before receiving the Quran. And when the surahs were revealed we would learn what they permitted and what they prohibited and what they ordered. However, I have seen many men who are given the Quran before Ieman, and he reads it from the opening of the Book to its closing, and he does not know what it orders and what it forbids and what should be his stance towards it. He is like someone who is just throwing out dates [i.e. he does not get any benefit from his recital].”
That is the manner in which the Prophet brought up his companions: Ieman first, and then the Quran.
Similarly Al-Hasan Al-Basri (ra) said:
“Faith (Ieman) is not by embellishment or wishful thinking, but it is what settles in the heart and is verified through your actions.”
This book attempts to detail the essential Aqaa’id of a Believer. After the best of era’s (with the Sahaba) we were left with in reality only two groups: the Ahlus Sunnah and the Alhlul Bid’ah.
Examples of the categories within this book range from What is Kufr?; The Existence of Allah; The Finality of the Prophet (s) to contentious contemporary issues like Tawaasul (the use of intercession to appeal to Allah). It covers issues of Taqlid; True Tasawwuf; Deviated sects including the (Bahai and Qaadiyaani); and our stance on Hadith. There is a welcomed introduction by Allama, Justice Khalid Mahmoud too. This book is comprehensive, detailed and a useful read.
