ActionSA Gauteng chairperson Bongani Baloyi has resigned from the party, citing differences between him and the leader Herman Mashaba. Baloyi said that he was called for a meeting by Mashaba last week. Mashaba informed him that their relationship had deteriorated and that he did not believe there was trust among them. Consequently, Mashaba felt it was essential to move Baloyi from a provisional chairperson to a national spokesperson.

Baloyi said, “I asked for time to apply my mind to this, and I reverted to him on Monday, yesterday, and I thought about it. It does not make sense to me that you say you don’t trust me and that the relationship has deteriorated whilst you still want, at the same time, you want to appoint me in a very strategic and key position, that being of the national spokesperson who has to work with you on a day-to-day basis.”

Baloyi said that he found it strange since, at no stage, Mashaba engaged with him or allowed him to rectify matters he had an issue with.

Baloyi is proud of his contribution to the party, but the time has come to part ways. Baloyi said, “For me, it’s important that after this break, one can just clear their head and mind space, to think and evaluate and to ask wisdom from God to be able to guide me adequately to make any decisions.” Baloyi is still deciding which political home to join next.
