Bilal Combined School Receives R 500,000 ICT & Science Labs

September 18, 2018

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 18-09-2018

Renowned Islamic scholar and Director of Al Tauheed Islamic Centre Sheikh Abdul Salaam Bassiouni says the introduction of two new laboratory’s at the Bilal Combined School in Lenasia South will ignite the minds of learners to achieve new heights.

Sheikh Bassiouni was speaking during the launch of the R 500,000 ICT and Science labs at the school on Tuesday.

Smart Labs together with PPC Africa, Diebold Niexdorf and the Department of Basic Education set up the labs at the school which it says will go a long way into assisting learners in the curriculum of science and technology.

The ICT lab features internet connectivity which includes laptops for teachers, tablets for the students and an interactive white board, while the science lab has equipment to enhance the learning of maths, science and biology. The school is also provided with 10GB of internet data a month.

Bilal Combined School is the 38th and final recipient of the smart lab.

Sheikh Bassiouni says Bilal school is diverse like the South African flag which has learners of all colours and religious backgrounds.

He says the sponsorship by PPC Africa and Diebold Niexdorf will open opportunities of learners at the school.

“Today you are opening opportunities for our students who will be studying in these classrooms, that they can become doctors, they can become engineers, and they can become whatever they want.”

The Ahmed Kathrada Foundations Neeshan Balton says if there’s one area where South Africa’s democracy has been weak and failed extensively is in the quality of education.

Balton says late struggle stalwart Ahmed Kathrada always said the key to unlocking the future of South Africa was education.

“Education for our young people to cross barriers in terms of knowledge, to cross barriers in terms of race, culture, religion, creed and nationality. But we also faced a problem today of crossing the barriers into the 4th industrial revolution.”

Balton says the partnership by PPC Africa, Diebold Niexdorf and Bilal Combined School is of great significance, a privilege that some public schools do not have.
