Ben Schoeman closed to traffic this weekend

October 18, 2007

Traffic on the Ben Schoeman highway will be diverted for more than 1km from Saturday.

This is due to the construction that is taking place for the Gautrain project.

The temporary road would be constructed in the median near the Eeufees Road exit and it would be in place for about nine months.

The Gautrain, an 80km Mass Rapid Transit railway system under construction in Gauteng will ultimately link Johannesburg, Pretoria, and OR Tambo International Airport.

It is hoped that the railway will offer commuters a viable alternative to road transport,

The Gautrain project is further aimed at reducing traffic as Johannesburg has a limited public transport infrastructure.
