Bell Pottinger “Deeply Sorry” for Work Done for the Guptas

July 06, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 06-07-2017

UK based PR firm Bell Pottinger has apologised for the work they have done for the Gupta owned Oakbay Investments saying it was inappropriate and also offensive.

In a statement the company says it took decisive action to not repeat previous mistakes and blamed “senior management” for misleading it about what was expected from the company.

Bell Pottinger say they were working with an independent law firm to get to the bottom of the allegations, but there was already enough evidence to dismiss two senior executives, one of whom is presumably Victoria Geoghegan, and suspend others.

Chief executive James Henderson says they’ve been shown interim evidence by the law Herbert Smith Freehills appointed in investigate it’s dealings with Oakbay Investments.

“As soon as we were made aware that we had been misled and that work was being done which goes against the very core of our ethical policies‚ we acted immediately.”

Henderson maintains most of the allegations against the PR firm are not true but admits enough of it is to be of deep concern.

“We wish to issue a full‚ unequivocal and absolute apology to anyone impacted. These activities should never have been undertaken. We are deeply sorry that this happened.”

Bell Pottinger stopped all work for Oakbay Capital three months ago following increasingly strong social media attacks on its staff and South African business.
