The African National Congress Women’s League (ANCWL) President Bathabile Dlamini says the ANC has regressed on the issues of women and in its efforts to elevate women to decision-making positions.
Dlamini was dressing the media on Tuesday at the 54th ANC Conference in Nasrec in Soweto.
Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma lost the presidency of the ANC to Cyril Ramaphosa on Monday after a hotly contested battle.
Dlamini says they are not happy that Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma was not elected as ANC President.
“As we celebrate the life of OR Tambo, who championed the struggles of the emancipation of women, we cannot be proud of this outcome. Patriarchy has one again reared its ugly head.”
Dlamini Zuma says while the league is proud of Jesse Duarte who made it to the top six, it has still been dealt a blow.
She says Tambo would’ve been turning in his grave.
“Right now we feel that men that were in the campaign that had a face of a woman made it to the officials. But that woman and her stature was not voted into the officials.”
Dlamini thanked Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma for putting up a good fight, despite being the target of criticism and insults.
