Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 17-11-2016

The Department of Basic Education says a teacher who allegedly made Islamophobic comments to a learner at a school in Lenasia has been suspended.

Educator L.G. Ledwaba from Apex Primary allegedly hit the Islamic headgear off a Muslim pupil and also allegedly made a remarks that Muslim kids are terrorists.

Department spokesperson Nanagolo Leopeng says they view the religious intolerance in a very serious light and condemn it.

“The district has met with all stakeholders and we have decided to put the teacher in a precautionary suspension and disciplinary action will be instituted against the said teacher.”

She says the department has also requested the district director to arrange a religious tolerance and diversity session with all the teachers at the school tomorrow.

“This is a very serious incident and we really would like all our educators to refrain from doing such acts. Every religious denomination should be respected.”
