Bakkie Lady: It was Too Hot, I Wanted to Sit in the Wind

January 19, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 19-01-2017

A woman who was photographed sitting in a sheep cage at the back of a bakkie says it was her decision to sit there because it was extremely hot and wanted to feel the wind after asking the driver for a lift.

The image of Linda Senekal in the cage in the Eastern caused a stir on social media with many people speculating whether the bakkie driver was racist or she had been locked up for committing a crime.

The Times newspaper reports that the conspiracy theories were shot down by Senekal and the driver‚ Johan Erasmus‚ who told the paper that she was simply being given a lift and had elected to sit in the cage.

Senekal says she wanted a lift to a clinic in Cradock and got onto the back of the bakkie after Erasmus had visited the farm where she stays with her boyfriend.

“I climbed on the back myself. I didn’t want to sit in front‚ it was too hot. I wanted to sit in the wind.”
