Baby Dies in Mothers Arms Outside Lenasia South Clinic

February 10, 2015

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News, 2015-02-10

A Gauteng clinic in Lenasia South, south of Johannesburg has come under scrutiny after a 3-month old baby girl died in her mother’s arms after being refused entry into the facility by security guards.

Eye Witness News reported that Letty Sebitso took her baby named Queen Elizabeth to the Lenasia South Municipal Clinic last month after she noticed problems with the child’s head.

The mother claimed she was denied access to the clinic by security guards who said doctors had left.

Queen Elizabeth died in her mother’s arms a short while later.

The Health Department Prince Hamnca said a probe has been launched into the circumstance leading to the death of the baby and they are sending a team to Lenasia South Clinic to investigate the allegations.

“We’ll request a quality assurance team to visit Lenasia South and do a preliminary investigation.”

The mother of the baby says she believes her child would still be alive if the guards had allowed her child inside the building to receive treatment.
