A horror crash on the N3 near the Wilge toll plaza close to Villiers in the Free State has claimed the lives of three people from Azaadville, south of Johannesburg.

Aslum Khan a teacher and deputy principal at Ahmed Timol Secondary School in Azaadville, his wife Fatima and his 12-year-old son Mohammad were travelling back from Durban when the accident happened.

According to Netcare 911’s Santie Steinman, paramedics arrived at the scene and found the crumpled remains of four vehicles.

“Reports from the scene indicate that two vehicles collided head-on and then another two vehicles crashed into the primary accident vehicles. One vehicle overturned and came to a standstill on its roof.”

It’s believed the family passed away en-route to the Union Hospital in Alberton.

A source told Radio Islam that Aslam was actively involved with the youth.

“What a loss to our community. He was really pious and had such a concern for our Muslim youth.”

Aslam was a regular on The Learning Channel tutoring Physical Science while his son Muhammad was studying to become a hafiz of the Qur’an.

The source said the community of Azaadville is shattered and is finding it difficult to come terms with the family’s passing.
