The Azaadviille community is reeling in shock after yet another murder in the suburb.
A 55-year-old man has been killed and 26-year-old son wounded in apparent robbery in Azaadville, west of Johannesburg.
It’s understood two armed suspects broke into the home of well-known teacher Ahmed Bapekee and his family in the early hours of this morning while they were sleeping.
The suspects gained entry through a sliding door at the back of the house.
Police say the suspects demanded Bapeekee’s firearm and valuables before shooting him and his son Yusuf.
The police’s Solomon Sibiya says they are investigating a case of murder.
“There was a squabble. They then pushed the whole family into a room and they took the husband outside the room and the wife heard two shots being fired.” Later they trapped his son and stole two of his cellphones and fired two shots at him wounding him to the right shoulder.”
Bapekee’s son Yusuf has been rushed to a local hospital and is in stable condition.
Sibiya has appealed to anyone with information to come forward that may lead to the arrest of the suspects.
This is the third murder in Azaadville
Two weeks ago, 65-year-old Haroon Saley from Crescent of Hope and his 29-year-old son Yusuf were also shot and killed in a double murder after armed suspects broke into their home.
