This year the Annual Health and Wellness day took place in Lenasia, at EE Patel TIBA center between 9am and 3pm. The Health and Wellness day is an event that allows the community access to medical treatments and assessments, free of cost. Some of the medical stations included, dental, speech and audiology, occupational therapy, cardiology , podiatry and more. All of this was made possible with the help of medical volunteers.
Muslim Age Program and Islamic Medical association of South Africa were amongst the two of the associations that were especially thanked for their participation in the event coming together. This was followed by thanks for the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation who supplied nurses for the event, and Lancet who provided testing machines. The University of Johannesburg also assisted in getting their optometry students to volunteer.
Dr Taahira from IMASA said that they were affiliated with mobile clinics and basic screening for the community. They volunteered a gynecologists’, optometrists, dentists and CPR processes. The Islamic Medical Association has always supported this cause, as well as many mobile clinics. Moeneeb (from IMASA) also conducted basic CPR and first aid lessons to aid the community in assisting others.
