As the fight for leadership of the ANC intensifies, ANC veteran Mavuso Msimang is the latest to attack party president Cyril Ramaphosa. He told SABC News in a recent interview that Ramaphosa’s five years at the helm of the governing party have been dismal. He further called on Ramaphosa not to be elected for a second term at the ANC’s 55th elective conference in December.

Speaking to Radio Islam International, ANC veteran Mavuso Msimang said President Ramaphosa should step aside mainly because he mishandled the Phala Phala situation.

According to Msimang, Ramaphosa is much better than the many who want to contest the election.

“There are good qualities which Ramaphosa possessors which Madiba had seen,” he says.

The challenge is that Ramaphosa lacks vital leadership qualities, and this may be a possible reason why he should not continue.

He said the leadership that the ANC requires is sadly missing.

Msimang joined the ANC 60 years ago and will not give up on the party. However, he says the ANC has allowed into its ranks too many people who did not commit to the people.

He added that there is no maturity for local government coalitions. If anything, there is only more instability.

“Society has to look at how it’s going to defend the democracy that was so hard fought for,” he says.
