With hours to go before the announcement of the results of the African National Congress (ANC) top six leadership positions, many party leaders have started to make their votes public.
South Africa will be waiting in anticipation as the ANC chooses new leadership at the 54th National Conference at Nasrec in Sowto.
Delegates started voting on Sunday night after a late start in a closely fought battle between presidential contenders Cyril Ramaphosa and Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma.
ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa tweeted: “Am casting my vote for comrade Ramaphosa for ANC President, whatever happens I trust he will restore confidence and inspire hope, it’s early hours but it’s worth waiting.”

Chief Whip of the ANC Jackson Mthembu tweeted: “Voted for @DPRamaphosa and other five incorruptible leaders @MYANC Conference. My vote is to save @MYANC and my country. We must !!

Police Minister Fikile Mbaluala tweeted: “JUST voted for the mother princess NDZ #HistoryBeckons Dedication to all women #womenpower Malibongwe!!!”

The ANC’s Khusela Sangoni says it’s not unusual for the party’s leaders to disclose who they voted for.
“There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. In fact our constitution guarantees them the right to nominate anybody, to vote for anybody, to be nominated and voted for as well. We must commend comrades like Zizi Kodwa who throughout the process would have sought to ensure that they remain impartial. But they are all NEC members, all them are voting and they’ve got preferences.”
Sangoni indicated there are no plans for the new ANC President to address the media saying the first people the new leader will speak to are the delegates during the closing session of the conference.
