The African National Congress (ANC) has told Radio Islam it’s not afraid of the threats by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) or any other party to disrupt the state of the nation address (Sona).

President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver his second state of the nation address today since taking over as president.

The red berets have warned Ramaphosa to come clean on his dealings with facilities management company Bosasa or face a question-and-answer session in Parliament, instead of delivering the SONA.

The ANC’s Jackson Mthembu says the ruling party is part of the rules that govern parliament.

Mthembu says it will be the institution of parliament and not the ANC that will be disrespected if the EFF or any other party continues with its threat to disrupt Sona.

“There is no other item on the agenda. There are 13 parties here in parliament. We are the major party. The presiding officers will stick to the programme. We’ll not be swayed by any 6% party to hijack the programme of parliament for whatever reason.”

Mthembu says any party that creates havoc will be ejected out of the chamber by the speaker of Parliament Baleka Mbete and the chair of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) Thandi Modise
