African National Congress (ANC) Secretary General Ace Magashule says no decision has been taken by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) to remove President Jacob Zuma.
Magashule was briefing the media at Luthuli House in Johannesburg on Monday on the outcomes of the governing party’s weekend lekgotla in Irene.
There has been widespread speculation that the NEC passed a resolution at the meeting calling for the removal of Zuma as president of the country.
Magashule says officials were seized on the matter.
“There isn’t any decision taken to remove comrade Zuma as some say on social media that he has been given until tomorrow as a deadline, there is no such a thing. The NEC discussed this matter and we all agreed that this matter is with the officials. There will be interaction between comrade Zuma and comrade Ramaphosa. There are no timelines. We can’t put timelines.”
Magashule also says allegations that he is linked to the dubious dealings at Estina Dairy Farm must be left to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
“My son has long been working for the Guptas, it has never been a secret. You knew as the media … my son is not involved in the Vrede Dairy. So let the law take its place.”
Magashule says the first step to unity is solving the problems of the ANC internally.
