ANC Must Take Full Responsibility for Political Upheaval – Jamiat SA

April 05, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 05-04-2017

As thousands of people prepare to protest for President Jacob Zuma to resign or be removed by the governing party, The Jamiatul Ulama South Africa says the African National Congress (ANC) must take full responsibility for the current political upheaval in the country.

Zuma has come under severe criticism for reshuffling his cabinet firing several ministers including Pravin Gordhan as finance minister and replacing him with Malusi Gigaba.

A number of organizations including the ANC Veterans Association, religious organizations, Save SA, Section 27 and COSATU have called for President Jacob Zuma to resign saying they no longer believe in his leadership abilities.

In a statement Secretary General of the Jamiatul Ulama Moulana Ebrahim Bham says the ANC should consider how many times the nation has been thrust into turmoil by the turbulent political climate.

“For a long time we have been told why the ANC still hurts for recalling Mr Thabo Mbeki. The implication was that rather than recalling Mr Zuma, the party would rein him in to act more judiciously, his presidential prerogatives withstanding.”

Ml Bham says the ANC has to take full responsibility for the current fall out, and look at ways of easing the mounting tensions in the country.

“Regardless of the outcomes of the current politically-charged period, is should be everyone’s commitment to ensure that we put the people first.”

Meanwhile Parliament says a motion of no confidence in the President requested by the DA, the EFF and the United Democratic Movement will go ahead on the 18 April.
