ANC Conference Agrees to Amend Constitution to Expropriate Land Without Compensation

December 20, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 20-12-2017

African National Congress (ANC) Economic Transformation Commission chair Enoch Godongwana says the conference has agreed the Constitution of South Africa must be amended to achieve expropriation of land without compensation.

Godongwana was addressing the media on economic transformation at the ANC’s 54th National Conference at Nasrec in Johannesburg on Wednesday.

He says the slow pace of land redistribution propels and fuels the anger in communities

“The contentious issue was on land reform. We agree that the NEC will initiate some amendment in the Constitution of Section 25 in order to achieve expropriation of land without compensation.”

Godongwana however says the condition of land expropriation must not impact negatively on food security and other sectors.
