Political analyst Molifi Tshabalala has told Radio Islam that if the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and the African National Congress (ANC) vote together in today’s motion of no confidence against Tshwane Mayor Solly Msimanga, he could be ousted as mayor.
The EFF and the ANC have tabled separate motions against Msimanga.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) is under immense pressure and may today see the party lose another metro if the motion succeeds.
Nelson Mandela Bay mayor Athol Trollip was removed in a similar fashion earlier in the week.
Tshabalala says the while DA’s federal council has decided it will not field another candidate to replace Msimanga as suggested by the EFF, it could work against the DA.
“It will depend on what happens and whether the EFF remains in the council or not. If they remain and vote with the ANC, then solly’s out.”
Tshabalala says what happened in Nelson Mandela Bay is the EFF’s destructive personality and race politics and has nothing to do with service delivery.
“The EFF is not part of the coalition. Unfortunately they want to be consulted when they are not even part of the coalition. What the EFF is doing is, it wants to impose its own policies on the DA. If the DA does not budge, then they want to pull the plug.”
Molifi says the issues plaguing the DA is not about service delivery, but rather land expropriation without compensation which is in stark contrast to the party’s policies.
