Political analyst Ralph Mathekga has told Radio Islam the revelations by former Bosasa executive Angelo Agrizzi at the Zondo Commission of Inquiry highlights the state of corruption in society.

Agrizzi told the commission that yesterday National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) officials were bribed to quash charges against the company’s employees.

He has also shown the commission a video where the company’s CEO Gavin Watson can be seen counting almost a million Rand in cash – money Agrizzi says was intended to pay of bribes.

Agrizzi’s evidence implicates 38 individuals in unlawful conduct.

Mathekga says this evidence by Agrizzi is beyond shocking.

“This is the stuff you see on the internet when you type in ‘Mexican drug cartel’. This is the type of footage that you see, the money, the language, the carelessness, the manner in which this transaction were being carried out, I mean cash. It does not get worse than this.”

On Thursday, the commission was forced to stop proceeding with Agrizzi’s testimony owing to security concerns around him.
