The South African National Parks Honorary Rangers have announced that all five Muslim prayer areas at the Kruger National Park have been completed.

The five salaah and wudhu facilities were erected at Skukuza camp, Lower Sabie Camp, Satara Camp, Afsaal picnic area and Tshokwane picnic area.

They feature separate areas for men and women to make wudhu and read their salaah.

The historic project which was initiated by the SANParks Honorary Rangers Johannesburg South branch cost about 850k.

SanParks Farouk Hassen has thanked the various donors that contributed to the project, which was initiated about nine years ago.

Hassen says the structures have been designed with minimal maintenance requirement and to blend in with the surroundings.

“There are no carpets or prayer mats, since it is understood that a salaah conscious person normally travels with their own musalla. For those that don’t have musalla’s, the floors are a polished concrete surface so as not to injure the knees in the sajda and qaida positions.”

Hassen has urged people who use the facilities to respect the rules of the prayer areas by keeping them clean, including using musalla’s for the sole purpose to perform salaah, not to leave any prayer mats, or any form of literature, not to call the athan or recite in a loud tone.
