Albania in Desperate Need of Islamic Revival

February 03, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 03-02-2017

The Al-Imdaad Foundation says the establishment of Islamic education & culture in Albania must continue to revive the deen.

Radio Islam’s Moulana Sulaiman Ravat, Moulana Muhammad Vanker and Al Imdaad’s Moulana Muhammad Motala are currently in Albania on an Islamic educational tour of the country.

Albania suffered tremendously under communism with many people losing their religious identity.

Ml Ravat says while most Albanians have been victims of communism they are in desperate need of Islamic infrastructure and upliftment.

“In the 90’s Albania had just come out of communism, so there was a lot of work to be done. They were Muslim by name, they had a Muslim ancestry, but there was very little knowledge, understanding and practice of deen.”

At the same time Al Imdaad’s Moulana Motala says the establishment of madrassas and learning institutions play a critical role in the revival of Islam.

He says Muslims in some instances did not even know how to reciprocate an Islamic greeting and in one area in Albania they used to attend church services on a Sunday before a madrassa was established.

“When Al Imdaad Foundation had established a madrassa in that area than the same very Albanians who used to go to church on Sunday, now mother, father and child are attending the madrassa.”

Ml Motala says the Al Imdaad Foundation has established more than 100 madrassas in the country in conjunction with the Rahma Mercy Foundation which is run by Moulana Khalil Patel from the United Kingdom.
