Al Jama-ah has claimed victory in the Ward 9 by-elections in Lenasia.
Up to 40 political parties participated in the by-elections on Wednesday, with a total of 444 candidates contesting various wards in municipalities across South Africa including in Lenasia.
While some residents did not vote telling Radio Islam that nothing would change under any ward councilor from any political party, there was a large turnout by residents at the polls to cast their ballots.
Al Jama-ah leader Ganief Hendricks says the party is elated on its historic win in Ward 9.
“This is a proud moment for the Party and a victory for good governance in the City of Johannesburg. The new councillor, Imran Moosa is also known to be a hardworking activist who will go the extra mile for his constituents including those who voted for other parties.”
Hendricks has called on residents of Johannesburg to unite in thanksgiving to all the people who came out to cast their votes, particularly the community of Lenasia Ward 9.
“We thank the Community Police Forum (CPF) workers, towing truck drivers, first responders, health care workers, general stakeholders and others who have made sacrifices to support Al Jam-ah to represent our communities better.”
Hendricks says the vote of Ward 9 has leveraged the party in the city council and has made the government stable to spearhead the service delivery for residents of Johannesburg at large.
