The nine suspects arrested for the murder of late apartheid struggle stalwart Ahmed Kathrada’s 65-year-old nephew and his 28-year-old son are expected to appear in the Schweizer-Reneke court today.
The suspects were handcuffed this week following an operation by a police task team.
Yunus Kathrada and his son, Moulana Ahmed Kathrada, were killed by armed suspects during an apparent house robbery last week Thursday.
Yunus died on the scene while his son Ahmed died in hospital.
The police’s Adele Myburg says the suspects are facing two charges of murder and one count of attempted robbery.
“The nine suspects that were arrested by the task team that was established after the double murder will appear today in the Schweizer-Reneke Magistrates court. The reason why they are appearing today and not as initially indicated yesterday is because of the detective that still had some initial investigations to finalise.”
