South Africa’s newest political party, ActionSA, has found itself with its name left out from the ballot list. It is now to approach the Electoral Court courts regarding the issue just weeks ahead of the upcoming local government elections, with the country set to go to the polls on November 1.
Headed by former Joburg Mayor Herman Mashaba, EWN reports that ActionSA had given the IEC until 10 am on Monday to ensure that its name was included on the ballot papers. Final draft ballot papers for wards in Gauteng had been presented by the Independent Electoral Commission this past weekend.
Meanwhile, Mashaba said that the party’s lawyers had informed him that there was no legal basis for the IEC to refuse to correct its error. He said that the future of South Africa could not be left to a ‘biased IEC’, there to ‘sabotage’.
