Johannesburg’s residents may be excused for being concerned that they will soon have another mayor after Action SA expressed concern that newly-elected mayor Kabelo Gwamanda’s qualifications were called into question.
The DA also accused him of fraudulent activity involving his company.
The mayor announced a media briefing to speak about the allegations over the weekend but never showed up, creating doubt in the community.
Michael Beaumont, National Chairperson at Action SA, joined Sulaimaan Ravat on Sabahul Muslim to discuss their concerns regarding new Joburg Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda’s qualifications and the accusations of fraudulent activity within his company where he ran a funeral scheme but swindled people off their payouts.
Beaumont says that the ANC and EFF could have tempered the vetting process as the candidate chosen could be an easy target to control; he also says that there is no formal process to ensure all documentation and qualifications are legit, there are however, some parties take the initiative to investigate whether qualifications are doctored or legit.
A meeting will be held to analyse the situation and decide whether a motion of no confidence against the mayor can be concluded as the metro does not need a mayor with questionable standards and morals.
