Al-Haarith bin Ribi’e Al-Ansaari Al-Khazraji Al-Salmi was the equestrian of the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him). There are inconsistencies as to whether he was present at Badr, or not. He did however; participate in the Battle of Uhud and those after it, according to observers.

The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) praised him by saying: “Bless our horseman, Abu Qataadah”. The Prophet (Peace be upon him), then supplicated for him by saying: “O Lord, bless his perception and his happiness”. He then said to him: “May your honour prosper”.

Abu Qataadah said to him: “May your honour thrive, O Messenger of Allah”. When Abu Qataadah was stricken in his face, the Prophet (Peace be upon him) spit and he recovered.

He led several detachments. Of them, one of fifteen men that reached the Nejd, capturing two hundred camels, two thousand sheep and taking prisoners as well. At the time of the Battle of Hunain, Abu Qataadah left with the Prophet (Peace be upon him) and killed a man that intended inequity upon the Muslims. A man came with the dead enemies armour. He was disarmed and divested of the armour.

Abu Qataadah contested in law as far as the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him), who judged by it. He purchased with its value an orchard, which was the first property he acquired in Islam.
