A divided ANC celebrates January 8th anniversary

January 07, 2022

By Hajira Khota

The ANC’s heated factional disputes in Limpopo province are heating up ahead of the party’s January 8 gathering at the Old Peter Mokaba stadium in Polokwane on Saturday.

This comes as an ANC chapter prepares to host Ace Magashule, the suspended secretary-general, at a time when senior leaders are in the province mobilising support for the big day.

Magashule will not attend the festivities or the governing party’s birthday rally because of his suspension as part of the step-aside resolution, which requires members facing criminal charges to remain out of the way.

Professor Andre Duvenhage spoke to Radio Islam International; he says that it has been a difficult time for the organisation that is building up to a national conference.

“It will be interesting to see how the institution will manage the conflict”.

Nomvula Mokonyane, the ANC’s head of organising and campaigns, denied any knowledge of Magashule’s event, which is set to take place concurrently with the party’s events, at a press conference yesterday on the status of readiness for the party’s 110th anniversary.

According to Mokonyane, Ramaphosa’s statement is scheduled to cover a wide range of concerns affecting the country, including alleged attacks on key state institutions.

In light of outstanding salaries and benefits not yet having been fully paid to its employees, the ANC has vowed not to host a lavish event to celebrate its 110th anniversary on Saturday.

Mokonyane, stated that the party was ready to hold the yearly event.
