Eight more people have died in South Africa after contracting the coronavirus, pushing the national death toll to 52,954.
The Health Department says another 777 more infections were also picked up over the past day, pushing the country’s known caseload since the start of the pandemic a year to more than 1 551,501.
Our recovery rate stands at 95.3% with just over 1,476,605 people having recuperated from the virus.
On the vaccine front, more than 269,102 healthcare workers have so far received the jab.
