The protest held at Luthuli House in Johannesburg on Friday 16th November received a poor turnout which was disappointing. However, the few activists that did attend created sufficient awareness to grab the attention of passing motorists and pedestrians.
Protestors clad in Palestinian regalia, chanted in unison for Apartheid Israel’s barbaric attacks to stop. Their voices echoed in the streets of Johannesburg awakening the mundanity of the afternoon.
Tahir Sema a spokesperson for SAMWU addressing the activists said, “The ANC must know that if they want our votes then they must support Palestine.” Also in attendance was the secretary general of the Jamiatul Ulama, Moulana Ebrahim Bham. He motivated the protestors to support the people of Gaza quoting the words of Nelson Mandela, “South Africa will never be truly free until Palestine is free.”
Zahid Asmal a freelance journalist said more rallies will take place in support for the people Gaza and South Africans must turn up in droves to lend their voices and support.
