Allah’s Might and Omnipotence

January 10, 2013

by Sh Abdur Rahman As-Sudais – 08 Safar 1434

     Praise be to Allah Who is sacred in His essence, attributes, and beauty and Who is great, elevated, and majestic; He is the Almighty in His glory, sublimity, and perfection. I thank Him (); He created all creatures with no imperfection or deficiency.

(The Sheikh quotes the following two lines of poetry):

Praise be to You (Allah), a good and ever increasing praise;
Praise be to You, O our Lord, we count on You;
Praise be to You, the best praise and thanks.
The best and purest praise ever, are due to You!

     And I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone with no partners, a witness to which hearts submit in obedience; and I bear witness that our Prophet and Master Muhammad is Allah's servant and Messenger, the best who has glorified Allah in his words and deeds. O Allah! Send Your Salat (Graces, Honors, and Mercy) and Peace on him and on his family who are ever generous, and on his Companions who were great heroes in defending Islam, and on the tab'în (the contemporaries of the Companions of the Prophet  after his death) and those who righteously followed them as long as the day and night rotate.

     Fear Allah, O servants of Allah! And know that the fear of Allah is the light of the hearts, the path to gain His love, and the proof of His reverence, O you who believe! Fear Allâh and keep your duty to Him. And let every person look to what he has sent forth for the morrow, and fear Allâh. Verily, Allâh is All-Aware of what you do [Al-Hashr: 18]

(The Sheikh quotes another two lines of poetry):

There are lessons fearing Allah that can cure hearts like rainfall
Which makes the roses shine;
 Fear of Allah is the best supply you carry;
And piety is the best thing a human being can attain.

O Muslims!
     In an age where man is surrounded by the temptations of materialism and conjectures, disturbed by the flaws of ideas and suspicions, impoverished (his soul) by systems of technology and pleasures, a very clear issue appears like the break of dawn that sends light and happiness into the souls; a great divine issue; how great and wonderful it is!

     That is, O you! May Allah protect you! The might of Allah and His signs, His uniqueness and attributes from which we sip the sweetness of faith and the coolness of the peace of mind and through which our souls obtain the reward of the Merciful: paradises and rivers (in the Hereafter), and a feeling of ease and optimism by (believing in Him) Him in this life. What is the matter with you, that [you fear not Allâh (His punishment), and] you hope not for reward (from Allâh or you believe not in His Oneness). [Nûh: 13]. While He has created you in (different) stages [Nûh: 14] (i.e. first Nutfah, then ‘Alaqah and then Mudghah, see (V.23:13-14)).

Ibn Abbas ‒may Allah be pleased with both of them‒ said: "Why don't you see the might of Allah ()?"
Saīd Ibn Jubair –may Allah have mercy on him‒ said: "Why don't you glorify Allah in the way He deserves"?

     It is the might of the Merciful which the Holy Qur'ān turned us to and thus became a shining light of guidance and faith. Elevated is He () There is nothing like Him; and He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer. [Ash-Shûra: 11]

(The Sheikh quotes two lines of poetry which mean):

Blessed is He, Allah (),
The Generous, the Perfect with no example unto Him;
His glory is above all descriptions; He is Greater,
More Elevated, and more Perfect than all descriptions might render.

Brothers in Faith!
     The might of Allah, in His glory, His beauty, His sustenance and protection of all things, and in His perfection, is what has saved man from his ignorance and pride, destroyed the reins of his recklessness and evils, raised him to the sublime heights of truth and light; He is the Truth, His saying is the Truth, His promise is the Truth; He is the Light and His saying is the Light. Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. [An-Nûr: 35]

(Again, the Sheikh quotes two lines of poetry):

He is the Majestic in Truth;
And the beauty of all these universes
Is but part of the traces of The Beautiful (Allah);
The Lord of the universes is worthier in the eyes of those who know.

O Muslims!
     This universe that shines with the signs of might and greatness, a universe perfumed with so many evidences and traces (of Allah's might) conveys His might to the hearts and permeates the minds with its dazzling glory: Verily, in the creations of the heavens and the earth, and in the alternation of night and day, there are indeed signs for men of understanding. [Al-Imrân: 190]

 (Another two lines of poetry are quoted):

How great is the universe! How beautiful is its harmony!
Indeed it is a sign of the making of a capable One;
So glorify Allah the Lord of the Throne to whom
All creatures of both jinn and humans prostrate themselves.

     Here are the analytical philosophies, the materialistic theories, and the false misleading atheistic dialectical methodologies whose strongest advocates have submitted to Allah's Might and Majesty and returned to the right path after denial and skepticism.Do they seek other than the religion of Allâh (the true Islâmic Monotheism – worshipping none but Allâh Alone), while to Him submitted all creatures in the heavens and the earth, willingly or unwillingly. And to Him shall they all be returned. [Al-Imrân: 83]

O Nation of faith and monotheism!
     Despite convincing proofs and clear arguments (evidence) that the Maker alone () is the Creator and Sustainer, the Wise and One who predetermines; and that no one influences the beings and creatures except Him; and no one can ward off what He willed and decided; and that there is no deity worthy of worship except Him; despite all this, some people had faith in certain persons, days, conditions, and months which turned them away from accomplishing their goals.

     They did not know that faith in the pure Oneness of Allah alone with no partners is the essence of life and religion: Say (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم): "Verily, my Salât (prayer), my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allâh, the Lord of the ‘Âlamîn (mankind, jinn and all that exists.) [Al-Anâm: 162].  "He has no partner. And of this I have been commanded, and I am the first of the Muslims." [Al-Anâm: 163]

     This pure Oneness of Allah is the pure spring for whoever who is thirsty, and whoever disbelieves in it will go astray and have none to guide him.

     O my Lord! O my Lord! Where is Allah's Might and Omnipotence in the hearts of magicians, conjurers, imposters, and fortune-tellers; in the hearts of those who ran to them (for help) from among the common people? All of them fell down from the peak of faith to the bottom of humiliating deviation (from the right path: Islam): They made not a just estimate of Allâh such as is due to Him. And on the Day of Resurrection the whole of the earth will be grasped by His Hand [Az-Zumar: 67]

     They did not glorify Him truly as He should be glorified, neither did they attribute to Him the lofty attributes, nor did they deny and refute the inappropriate new descriptions of Him: Is there any ilâh (god) with Allâh? High Exalted be Allâh above all that they associate as partners (to Him)! [An-Naml: 63]

O believers!
     So many are those who are blind to the Power of the Lord of the worlds, His Vanquishing, His Mightiness, His Pride: so many of those who bring oppression, destruction, and injustice upon our brothers in Palestine, Syria, and Arakan. By Allah, and again by Allah! The end of those unjust tyrants is but destruction and forfeiture.

     Here are –praise be to Allah‒ the first signs of their pernicious deaths close and clear; indeed it is a shame and disgrace for the civilized world which has already invaded space and set in it the most sophisticated space shuttles to watch and hear an innocent people being shelled without taking action against the aggressors. O Allah, we seek Your help!

     Similarly, where are the hearts that are filled with the fear of Allah?! Where are the souls that are charged with the fear of the Merciful?! Where are they vis-à-vis those who destabilized the security of the homelands by spreading chaos, panic, violence, fear, and terrorism permitting the shedding of Muslims' blood as well as the blood of the safe Muāhadīn (non-Muslims who are permitted by a Muslim State  to live and work in it).

O Nation of Islam!
     Being true with Allah, and feeling happy by being close to Him will never be firmly established and certain unless we feel His Might and Majesty in our conscience, hearts, senses, body organs, and minds; He is Allah who knows overt and secret thoughts (i.e. what is apparent and what is hidden), the good deeds and the bad ones. Thus, we abstain from sin and violation, and abandon filth and taking risks.

     There are so many people who overlook Allah's Eternity and Glory, so they turned their backs on His bounties and blessings; thus their values and faith weakened and consequently they betrayed the Trust (their faith), forsook their duties, and neglected their responsibilities. Other people became addicted to alcohol and drugs and as a consequence murdered others and violated sanctities for they were oblivious of Allah's Might, Omnipotence and Wrath: And Allah warns you against Himself (His punishment) [Al-Imrân: 28]

     Therefore, knowing Allah brings about loving Him, fearing Him and being constantly aware of Him:  so fear them not, but fear Me, if you are (true) believers.  [Al-Imrân: 175]

     Abu Sulaiman Addarani –may Allah bless his soul‒ said: "The source of every good thing in this life and in the Hereafter is the fear of Allah; and every heart devoid of the fear of Allah is a ruined heart."

O Nation of good and virtue!
     Where are Allah’s Glory, Might, Sacredness, and Omnipotence from those who have ignited the flame of those licentious, debauched television channels, and the atrocious porn internet sites that undermine the structure of societies and the firm pillars of the families and destroy the solid foundations of virtue? Moreover, they dragged people’s honor into the dirt, and wore away shamefulness, zealousness, and repugnance: Verily, those who like that (the crime of) illegal sexual intercourse should be propagated among those who believe, they will have a painful torment in this world and in the Hereafter. And Allâh knows and you know not.( not mentioned in the text) [An-Nûr: 37]

      We seek refuge in Allah from the stolidity and rigidity of feelings, and from the withering and passivity of emotions towards the Might of The One, The Creator, The Benefactor, The Almighty, The Knowing, The Judge, So know (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) that, Lâ ilâha illallâh (none has the right to be worshipped but Allâh)[2], and ask forgiveness for your sin, and also for (the sin of) believing men and believing women. And Allâh knows well your moving about, and your place of rest (in your homes). [Muhammad: 19]

Dear Muslims!
     The ultimate acquaintance with the Might of Allah () for the Muslim is to be a captive of Allah’s Glory and Beauty, a believer who humbles himself to Him and a devotee who submits himself to Him. His spirit will indeed flower with the breeze of love and contentment, and that is the perfect emotional submission to the Omnipotence of The King, the All-Knowing.

     (The Sheikh quotes lines of poetry):

If we pray to Allah all day and night,
With our tongues constantly remembering Him,
We won’t be able to express
The feelings deep in our hearts,
Nor will we be able to glorify Him a bit
Or thank Him for His overwhelming bounties.

     Surely, enlightening the Muslims about the all-conquering Might of The Creator and His compact succinct Sharia, guiding them to avail themselves of the copious meanings of the Ayats (verses) that deal with legislation and the universe and which combine the majesty of the two worlds, the worlds of the invisible and the visible, and restrain from the duplicity and antagonism they have become inured to. Indeed, by Allah’s leave their embracing those divine liturgies and meanings enables them to find the path to guidance and righteousness and the good life and success. Thus, societies can relish life and realize their highest aspirations and achieve a co-existence that is higher, finer, more lasting, and more solid. Verily, the Might of Allah () is a path to such ascension. How excellent the path and the ascension are! And for Allah that is not hard or difficult.

     Having said this, I ask Almighty Allah to forgive me, you, and all Muslims all sins and wrong-doings; so ask Him for forgiveness and repent to Him, for our Lord is Beneficent and Merciful.
