A new wave of AI models is already beginning to disrupt Western business and society by automating some tasks and convincingly lying about essential topics.

China’s unelected Communist ruling party just waded into this technological quagmire with a proposed set of restrictive rules, The New York Times reported on Monday.

The rules, from the Cyberspace Administration of China, cover generative AI, a new type of technology that powers ChatGPT and other developing products that have taken the Western world by storm in recent months.

Intelligence Development, Consulting AI Digital Transformation, Khusil Parshotam told Radio Islam International that China would undoubtedly attempt AI to promote socialist core values. However, AI can only provide information based on the information it is fed, and a GPT can’t be biased in a particular way.

Arguably it has been seen that chatGPT and other platforms that work similarly to AI can have bias. An investigative journalist recently found a bias concerning Muslims and Islam within the media space.

According to Parshotam, most information on social media and the internet is skewed to the Western World. As Eastern European and Muslim countries and the masses have been heard appropriately, the AI will take in the information, and neutrality will be seen.

AI researchers often need to learn why models generate certain content. Similar image models can quickly produce images of famous people doing unusual things they didn’t do. Unpredictable technology like this could be a nightmare for China’s leaders, who try to control the political narrative tightly.
