With South Africa facing times of economic and political instability, there has been calls for a national shutdown to take place on Monday the 20th of March 2023. This shutdown was called for by the EFF (Economic Freedom Fighters) and will focus on highlighting their calls for President Cyril Ramaphosa to resign, while also calling for the official end to load-shedding.
While many South Africans do agree that the country is facing hard times, there has been equal concerns about the manner in which the EFF has called for the national shutdown. This has been through coercion and bullying. All of these have further extended to intimidating businesses to stay closed during the shutdown.
Though there is no credible information to suggest that violence is planned, the shutdown in July 2021 does bring about fear of repetition to many citizens. The United Ulama Council of South Africa urges the South African ummah to remain positive by placed our reliance on Allah (S.W.T) and taking necessary precaution.
