ActionSA has accused the EFF in Tshwane of theft and trespassing after a group of EFF councillors stormed the venue, where ActionSA councillors were subjected to polygraph tests, stealing the equipment.

Tuesday’s council meeting elected a COPE mayor last week despite the coalition having a majority.

The caucus had requested polygraph tests to determine who may have been involved in the vote.

The polygraph test was conducted in a private venue when the EFF stormed the venue grabbing equipment and materials, intimidating those who were present and leaving with the material.

Some material was not returned, whilst come was damaged.

The party’s national chairperson Michael Beaumont said that the party planned to open a criminal case.

He said it was profoundly concerning from an ActionSA standpoint that the EFF acted like some “posse force” in South Africa.

He further stated that more concerning was that in an environment where it was known that votes at local government had been bought with bags of money and offers of rewards and tenders. He said it was concerning that the EFF was desperate to ensure the truth was not revealed.

ActionSA has resolved to investigate the motive behind some of its councillors voting with the other side.

The number of councillors that voted against the coalition from ActionSA is unknown, but eight councillors from the coalition voted against party orders.
