There is still no end in sight for the Public Service Unions’ dispute with the government over demands for pay increases, according to Reuben Maleka, a representative for individuals employed in the public sector.

As the government continues to reject the worker’s; demands for pay increases, workers will inevitably go on strike for a third time this week.

On Monday, during an interview with Radio Islam International, Maleka claimed that they requested that the government stop withholding a pay raise from employees to appease the rating agencies.

He continued that public employees have not received a pay raise for the past three years and all unions, including FEDUSA, COSATU and SAFTU, supported the strike.

“We are all in unity to say it is time to defend the gains of democracy, which gave rise to the right to collective bargaining and the establishment of the forums that will ensure that there is proper bargaining.”

Fitch declared that the international rating agency would keep South Africa’s rating despite the erratic market on Friday night.
