The sitting was due to take place on Tuesday, 6 December; however, political parties agreed to a postponement to allow for logistic arrangements to be made.

A statement released from Parliament reads: “The National Assembly Programming Committee (NAPC) has, during its urgent meeting convened on Monday evening, resolved to defer the consideration of the Section 89 Panel report to Tuesday 13 December 2022.”

The postponement will allow for all MPs to be physically present during the debate.

Parties agreed to delay the Section 89 report debate if it would allow for proper sitting and manual voting.

Last week, a Section 89 independent panel report found that the president may have breached his oath of office regarding an incident at his Limpopo farm, Phala Phala, in February 2020.

The National Assembly will vote on whether to accept or reject the report. However, if MPs vote to accept the Section 89 Panel report, it will mean that President Cyril Ramaphosa could be impeached.
