After several weeks without a mayor, the city of Ekurhuleni Tuesday marked the reappointment of Tania Campbell to the position.
She was re-elected as mayor of the city at a special meeting, with Jongizizwe Dlabathi, the ANC’s deputy regional chairperson, receiving 99 votes in favour of Campbell, who received 124 votes to win.
The ANC and the EFF could not agree on running Ekurhuleni, with ANC council members receiving criticism regarding their unwillingness to support the EFF during council breaks.
The EFF was put on the back foot after the talks broke down and voted in favour of Campbell.
The EFF had helped elect Campbell last year following the municipal elections.
