Eskom’s directors have been informed of a change to the board in the upcoming days by Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan.

The failing power utility has been facing a critical shortage of skilled workers such as engineers and the electricity supply industry for years.

Eskom, can have a maximum of 13 non-executive directors, however it has only six. Seven of which had begun resigning in 2018 and have not been replaced as yet. The remaining directors, have said to have appealed to Gordhan for several years to fill the vacancies on the board.

This comes as Cabinet resolved last week that efforts should be made to strengthen the board.

However, it is unclear if the entire board will be replaced or just specific directors.
