This week the IFP had won a historically ANC ward in Richards Bay, KwaZulu Natal. The IFP  already governs the Richards Bay government in a coalition, but its recent ward win was a step in a different direction possibly showcasing the party’s strength before the 2024 election. uMhlathuze mayor, Xolani Ngwezi, joined Radio Islam International to speak more on the matter.

When asked what it meant winning Ward 12 the mayor replied that, “it means a guarantee of service delivery to members of Ward 12, for the next 4 years 6 months. We are excited by this”. He says that they have already started working to serve the people even in the process of the transition. “Our people have been unhappy and they need a change. I’m happy that the people of Ward 12 voted for the IFP, and we are proud that they were part of making this transition”

This recent week saw the ANC making allegations that the IFP had bought votes during the elections. Ngwezi says, “those are baseless allegations because something like this would never happen. This party started in 1975 and for over 40 years it has never and will never buy votes. We have engaged the community and shown that we want to service them.”
