Coalition Talks Between ActionSA & DA In Kwadukuza Reach An Impasse

July 28, 2022

Coalition talks between ActionSA and the DA have reached an impasse in KwaDukuza, with both parties blaming the other for selfish behaviour and not putting the community first.

Both parties want to remove the ANC from power in the KwaDukuza Municipality in Durban. The war of words that erupted between the two parties saw the DA accusing ActionSA of cadre deployment and making illegal demands during coalition talks.

Speaking to Radio Islam, ActionSA national chairperson Michael Beaumont says the DA is trying to kill the coalition talks in the region.

“Fortunately, there are lots of political parties in KwaDukuza  who continue to work together, negotiations are continuing with ActionSA and other political parties to pull together a coalition even if the DA is not interested in removing the ANC,” says Beaumont.

Even though KwaDukuza might be a small municipality, Beaumont says it is a place that represents the politics of South Africa.

“A place that no one could ever imagine the ANC lose a majority, the ANC is now sitting with 29 seats in a 59 seat council,” says Beaumont.

He reiterates that it is important for political parties to state where they stand, either with the residents of the region or the ANC. “That’s a decision the DA has to make,” says Beaumont.

ActionSA says they are working with other political parties to form a coalition.
