As Tax season is upon us in South Africa, SARS has implemented a few changes to the 2022 TAX filing season. This includes provisional TAX payers being auto assessed by SARS and not having to file for a TAX return if they are satisfied with the outcome. This would not work for non-provisional tax payers. Non-provisional tax payers are people who are employed irregularly such as actors. Siphithi Sibeko, head of communications at SARS, speaks to Radio Islam about this.
The head of communication explains that auto assessments are done via third party providers who use data based on the information that SARS has as its disposal, along with its own data, in order to assess individuals. This then determine whether a person deserves a refund or a has “come short and has to pay their outstanding dues to SARS”.
