Civil society movement ‘We are South Africans’ are preparing for what it calls the mother of all convoys to deliver tons of food and other aid to flood-stricken KwaZulu-Natal tomorrow.
Through its charitable wing ‘The People of South Africa Foundation’, the organisation has been involved in the provision of aid since the first floods and mudslides in the province last month.
Speaking to Radio Islam, the organisation’s founder Gilbert Martin says they need to help out where they can.
“It’s a very sad thing that happened with the floods, but the main thing we see now is that all of our communities are joining together,” says Martin.
The foundation has secured 62 tonnes of cold drinks, 35 tonnes of maize & approximately 8 tonnes of aid from Johannesburg.
Martin says the convoy will help people to see how severe the situation is in KZN on the ground.
The convoy will leave on 27 May from Alberton HighSchool in Johannesburg at 8 am.
