Following a severe thunderstorms warning, KwaZulu-Natal disaster management teams have indicated readiness. Heavy rains are once again expected in the province, which had recently been hit by severe flooding – roughly 450 people lost their lives, with another 50 still missing.
EWN reports that the South African Weather Service has warned that roads and settlements may again experience flooding.
Meanwhile, the co-operative governance department has urged communities to remain calm and to exercise caution: residents in low lying areas have been asked to move to higher ground and to evacuate at-risk structures.
EWN reported that localised flooding is also expected, according to the Weather Service, over parts of the Free State, Gauteng, Highveld, Mpumalanga as well as parts of Limpopo.
