Authorities warn that heavy rain could lead to flooding in some low-lying communities and informal settlements in Gauteng, the Northwest and Mpumalanga. Residents are advised to be extra careful.

Residents are also urged to slow down when driving and watch for traffic lights that might be out of order.

A Yellow Level 4 weather warning was issued following heavy rains overnight in several parts of the country. Residents in Gauteng, Mpumalanga, and the Northwest experienced heavy rain overnight.

The South African Weather Service has issued warnings of disruptive rain at areas in the Free State – Bethlehem, Reitz, Warden, Sasolburg, Parys; the North West – Potchefstroom, Hartbeespoort, Rustenburg, Ventersdorp, Koster; as well as at Vereeniging.

Joburg Emergency Services say they’ll remain on high alert on Monday if they’re called out to rescue anyone.  Spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi spoke to Radio Islam International.
