April 04, 2022

By Umamah Bakharia

A weather yellow level 4 warning has been issued after heavy rains engulfed Gauteng and surrounding areas over the weekend.

Authorities say that the heavy downpours could lead to localised flooding in low-lying communities and travel disruptions in the province.

Weather SA is also warning of the possibility of short term disruptions in water, electricity and communication networks etc.

So far, the rains have been affecting Gauteng, North West and Mpumalanga regions.

Weather service forecaster Lehlohonolo Thobela said: “We are expecting widespread showers for most parts of Gauteng, the eastern parts of the North West and western parts of Mpumalanga.”

The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) is urging motorists to drive carefully and adhere to driving regulations.
