The wait for the class of ’21 is now over, as matric results have been released

January 21, 2022

By Hajira Khota

On Thursday, Motshekga presented the national senior certificate results.

“In the history of the NSC exams, the classes of 2020 and 2021 produced the best results.”

The overall pass rate for the National Senior Certificate (NSC) matric class of 2021 is at 76.4%.

The continued impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic presented significant obstacles to the matric class of 2021. Differentiated timetables, a reduced curriculum, and additional after-school treatments are among the measures being taken to keep students safe throughout the pandemic. These flaws, she added, combined to create a “hostile” learning atmosphere.

The Free State is at the top of the list, with less than 70% of the vote, while Limpopo is at the bottom.

With 117 704 Bachelor passes between them, Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal are the provinces with the most Bachelor passes.

Gauteng learners are among the best performers in the NSC examinations across the country. Gauteng had a pass rating of 82.8%, a 1.0% decrease from 2020.

IEB results were released on Wednesday, with a pass rate of 98.39%. This is slightly higher than the 98.06% achieved in 2020.Schools around the country, particularly in disadvantaged and rural areas, continue to face a number of issues. However, Motshekga claims that the government’s efforts are assisting in the improvement of the situation.

Motshekga stated that despite the immense hurdles they faced, the class of 2021 must be praised for maintaining this trend.
