Bain SA Withdraws From Business Lobby After Consultancy is Criticized

January 19, 2022

By Umamah Bakharia

US management consultancy firm Bain and Company, Bain SA, has withdrawn from lobby group Business Leadership South Africa (BLSA), following the release of the first part of the Zondo report into State Capture.

In a statement, Bain SA said its membership of the business lobby group should not distract from the important work BLSA does on behalf of the business community for the good of South Africa.

Radio Islam spoke to Public Interest SA’s chairperson, Tebogo Khaas for a reaction on this case.

BLSA represents major companies in South Africa which purpose is to build an environment in which globally competitive and national responsible companies can prosper.

Khaas says he doubts that Bain has found its moral compass in this regard.

“I think it is the pressure that has been hit from the company on all quarters especially from civil society that has bared Bain’s decision to quit BLSA,” says Khaas.

He adds that BLSA has not been transparent of why they have continued their relationship with Bain considering what has been included of Bain in part 1 of the State Capture report.

Khaas says there is a lot of Bain and its activities that we as South Africans are not aware of which needs to be questioned.
