British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has apologised over a party held at No 10 Downing Street during the first coronavirus lockdown.
Euronews reports that in the UK there was both public and political fury over the allegations that the Johnson and his staff defied lockdown restrictions by having a party in May 2020. Some 30-40 people are said to have attended.
It’s alleged that while socializing was forbidden, the PM and his wife, along with scores of staff, attended the event in the garden at Downing Street.
Johnson said, “I want to apologise,” to MPs. He added with regard to public anger, “I know the rage they feel with me and with the government I lead, when they think that in Downing Street itself the rules are not being properly followed by the people who make the rules.” He claimed, however, that he thought the drinks party was a work event. Johnson had previously constantly denied before parliament that lockdown guidelines had been violated by his staff.
Opposition Labour leader, Sir Keir Starmer, has called on Johnson to “do the decent thing, and resign”, saying the prime minister’s response was “offensive to the British public”.
Meanwhile, a senior civil servant was investigating reports of several social events having been held by Johnsons staff during the lockdowns.
Euronews reports that a social media post by the Metropolitan Police on the day of the party informed people that they could be outside, provided they were “on your own / with people you live with / just you and one other person”.
I am not a Muslim, but there have been so many lies and unlawfulness regarding so many things that I read news and comments from many different sources; I have never written a social media comment before but would like to address the arrogance and lawlessness of our English government.
Mr. Johnson states “I want to apologise,” to MPs. He added with regard to public anger, “I know the rage they feel with me and with the government I lead, when they think that in Downing Street itself the rules are not being properly followed by the people who make the rules.”
‘The Government’ serves the people; it is elected to represent, and it is the lawful requirement that it does the Peoples’ bidding. It makes no ‘rules’ itself but acts (hence ‘an Act’ (of Parliament)) for the People and does their bidding. We have moved so far into lawlessness that this is of course ignored and Government by Consent is something that I suspect most people have no knowledge of. The people in ‘power’ do as they please, and use ‘democracy’ for there own aims.
It is a shocking hypocrasy to criticise Islamic countries for not being ‘democratic’; we are not and
England is a ‘puppet’ ‘democracy’; much of the blame must, however, lie with the masses here whose apathy and ignorance, together with ‘not interested, let’s go to the pub for a good time’, permit this situation.
If true democracy existed, horrors such as the war waged on the Iraqi people would not happen, I believe. I know nobody past and present who would have wanted to go to war; and real accountability would I trust go a long way to preventing the lies that are told to the masses here, and the deaths of people such as poor Dr. Kelly who wouldn’t tow the line and say that Iraq had ‘weapons of mass destruction’.
At least some of us are trying to change things, and to bring power back to the People; to exercise a true democracy and Government by Consent.
